Ward Village

HISTORY OF THE LAND

As part of the subdivisions of Kūkuluae‘o and Ka‘akaukukui (Kaka‘ako), the land where Ward Village now sits has supported progress since its early years. Hawaiian ancestors added their ingeniously designed fishponds and agricultural terraces to this landscape, making it a place of great productivity and a favorite playground for the Ali‘i.

The Evolution

With its proximity to industry and the harbor, this area saw an upswing in people looking for a place to live and work. Victoria Ward and her family transformed this land into the Ward Estate, building the iconic Old Plantation in 1881. In the mid 1900’s, this area evolved from a quaint residential neighborhood to a dynamic, blue-collar commercial hub. Kūkuluae‘o is within what is today known as Kaka‘ako, the center of urban living, with new residences and buildings adding to its growing skyline. Ke Kilohana offers you the exciting opportunity to have a bright and fulfilling future in a neighborhood that offers everything you need, just steps from home.
